Sin6ere talks debut album and embracing duality in her music

Sin6ere is the latest rising artist to emerge from the Atlanta music scene. Her journey into music began as a student majoring in English, where she discovered a passion for slam poetry that later guided her into a music career. Sitting down with Finessed Media, Sin6ere discusses her latest release, First Lady of the 6, her debut album—an introduction to her world.

Described as a collection of 12 songs, her debut album showcases confidence through vulnerability. It serves as a reminder that, even in tough times, we can find strength and, most importantly, keep moving forward. Speaking about her music and the album, she shared, “My music is truly an extension of me, where I’m from, and the energy I like to emit. This album exposes all sides of Sin and 6ere, showing how duality is important to me, not only as an artist but also as a woman.”

With each track, Sin6ere reveals her personal experiences, celebrating her duality as a woman from Atlanta. The lead single for the album, "Pretty," invites listeners to block out negativity and use it as motivation to move toward their goals.

When discussing the album’s creation, Sin6ere shared openly: “I approached First Lady of the 6 differently than the rest of my catalogue. We all go through real-life situations, and music is a direct link to escapism—that’s what I wanted to provide for my listeners. I want people to understand where I come from and my background, but I also want them to see themselves in each track, whether that relates to success, losses, or moments of clarity. Giving a bit of everything was important to me because life isn’t just about the ups or what we’d like to portray; it’s also about how we can positively get through the tough times.”

In short, Sin6ere describes First Lady of the 6 as an album about embracing oneself. “It stands as a testament to embracing your story, believing in yourself, and staying true to yourself and those around you.” The album, running 33 minutes with 12 tracks, perfectly captures Sin6ere’s story emerging from Atlanta.

The following interview has been slightly edited for context and clarity

Daniel: Who is Sin6ere, and how did you get your stage name?
Sin6ere: Sin6ere is more than just a stage name; the word itself embodies who I am as a person and the importance of authenticity. I’m all about being myself in every facet of my life. There’s no fun story behind my stage name. I always liked the word "sincerely" for its meaning and sound. So, when thinking of a name, it felt natural to shorten it and include a personal detail (the "6") of where I’m from.

Daniel: What has been the highlight of your career so far, and what are you looking forward to most?
Sin6ere: The highlight of my career so far has been the release of my album and seeing its reach. It’s amazing to be able to say that an independent artist from the Atlanta area is being streamed in places like Africa, France, and the U.K.

Daniel: Your debut album has 12 songs. Was that always going to be the case?
Sin6ere: Yes, there were always meant to be 12 songs on the album, but an adjustment was made to the final tracklist right before it was released.

Daniel: If certain songs were left off the album, why was that?
Sin6ere: I have a song called “Green with Envy” that was released as “Green Envy” on a producer's album, so it couldn’t be included on this project. Although that wasn’t ideal for the album's flow, it allowed me to include another, never-before-heard song, “Damn Mama,” for my listeners to experience on the album!

Daniel: Growing up, was music always something you wanted to do?
Sin6ere: Growing up, music wasn’t the career path I thought I’d pursue, even though I was jokingly in two “girl groups” during high school. I was always interested in creative writing and ended up channeling that passion into my music now.

Daniel: Artists often experience many challenges. What are some you've faced, and how did you overcome them?
Sin6ere: Wearing many hats as an independent artist has been a challenge. Being the artist, promoter, content creator, and manager is what you sign up for, but sometimes things can slip through the cracks. Learning to balance these roles has been tough, but managing my time, creating schedules, and reaching out to my network when needed have all helped.

Daniel: "Flex" ft. S3nsi Molly is the only feature on the album. How did that collaboration come about?
Sin6ere: I describe the collaboration with S3nsi Molly as kismet. I came across her post looking to collaborate with new artists when I was searching for new beats. I’ve always been a fan of her music and connected with her energy. I reached out to her manager, and she sent me her verse just a couple of days later. It flowed perfectly with the concept I had in mind, and she’s been supportive since!

Daniel: What’s your favorite song on the album, and why?
Sin6ere: My favorite song on the album is “Homer.” It’s versatile; whether I want a hype vibe or a chill one, it delivers every time!

Daniel: Who inspires you musically?
Sin6ere: DMX is my favorite rapper. His confidence, performance, and ability to incorporate poetry into his music have always inspired me! And of course, the fact that he has timeless hits doesn’t hurt.

Daniel: Looking toward the future, what is something you want to achieve?
Sin6ere: I love performing, so I’d like to do some larger shows, make new connections, and reach new listeners.

Daniel: How do you hope to inspire others through your music?
Sin6ere: I want to inspire women and girls to see that there’s more to them than just being a pretty face. I also talk about being educated and knowing your worth in my songs. I hope listeners find confidence and empowerment in my music.

Daniel: What is your support system like?
Sin6ere: My support system is amazing! My family has been my biggest support—my mom, sister, and cousin are always the first to hear my songs or come to the studio with me.

Daniel: Friends and family often only support artists after they "make it." How has your experience been?
Sin6ere:
As an independent artist, I think there are always friends or family members who need to see the "proof" before fully supporting. But once my family understood my music, they were completely supportive. I also have friends who listen to every release and continue to show their support.

Daniel: What’s something you’d tell your younger self?
Sin6ere: I’d tell my younger self that there is so much more to come. Those big dreams you once only thought about are now becoming your reality. You never gave up, and that’s the most important lesson.

Daniel: How would you describe your upbringing?
Sin6ere: I was raised by a strong woman, and my upbringing was close-knit. My mother is my rock to this day; she taught me to be resilient and never to accept less than what I deserve. I owe everything I’m working toward to her.
