Releasing your inner Child with TiaCorine

This article is based on an °1824 Q&A event with TiaCorine on May 19th, 2021

The story started in 3rd grade when TiaCorine defeated her bullies in the school talent show. This life event -much like a movie scene-began TiaCorine's musical career. After this historic event, those around her continued to facilitate her musical side, including her parents who introduced her to iconic artists like Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, A Tribe Called Quest, Ginuwine, and Biggie. Then when discovering she could drop some bars in her friend’s closet studio, TiaCorine ventured out into the world of hip-hop in her own way through trap anime.

TiaCorine’s vibrant, colorful style is hard to miss. She makes sure to incorporate as much of herself in her art as possible. She said “my insides are bright and colorful,” which translates throughout all her content. Inspirations come from classic, colorful cartoons, and anime including Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z which she even watches in the studio.

Even though “starting the verse is the hardest part,” said TiaCorine, she has no problem setting the scene for the listener. She said, “my mind is a crazy library of pictures and I string them together.” This is how she pieces together her music. The transitions on The Saga of 34Corine string the songs together. Each song is a story and the transitions allow the audience to turn the page. These transitions include iconic media such as the scene from Rush Hour 3 featured on the transition from “Hotel Mink” to “Tacos.”

She claims to have no secret formula, only the idea of taking what’s in you, putting it out there, and not caring what anyone thinks. “I don't think about it, I just do it,” says TiaCorine. She said “you don't have to follow a certain wave or style...my music just lets people be themselves,” which allows for so many to relate to her music.

Producers like Kenny Beats help her execute these bright ideas. The collaboration was able to write “Luigi” in under two hours showing how well they work together. We can expect more collaboration from them in the future.

From a tiny apartment and a 70 dollar mic to over 1 Million streams on “Lotto,” TiaCorine has proved to be a model for pursuing one's dreams. On balancing life and working towards one's goals her advice is to "make sure your drinking water, eating, and exercising...get used to not sleeping... it's gonna be tough, you might cry... but it's gonna be ok... ." In this new era of TiaCorine, she hopes to achieve other goals by branching out into fashion, acting, and anime. She is also confirmed to play Rolling Loud later this year.
