Finessed Media is holding an open discussion about Latinidad in Black spaces with female leaders within the Afro-Latinx community to share their unique experiences on discovering their Black/PoC identity and Black Latino represe​ntation in mainstream media and music and to discuss what companies, organizations and individuals can do to progress the Black Lives Matter movement.

Panelists:

Nydia Simone is a Panamanian-American filmmaker with a passion for Afrolatinx and Caribbean stories. Nydia has been working in TV and Film for eight years and has produced films and television programs. She has worked for ABC, Disney Animation Studios, NBC and more. Her company, Blactina Media has been featured in the New York Times, Oprah’s Online Magazine, People En Espanol, Vice, BronxNet TV and more. Currently Nydia is raising funds to produce Blactina's first slate of films and tv programs.

Dash Harris Machado is a multi-media journalist, doula, and entrepreneur based in Panama. She is the co-founder of AfroLatinx Travel, producer of NEGRO: A docu-series about Latino Identity, exploring AfroDiasporic and Black identity and the historical and present day class, race, and color complex among Latinxs, and co-producer of podcast Radio Caña Negra, dissecting themes of Black history, life, anti-blackness, social access, justice, love and joy throughout the Americas and offering trainings, workshop series, and coaching on dismantiling antiblackness in Latinx communities.

Clarivel Ruiz daughter from Ayiti Kiskeya (aka Hispaniola, aka Dominican Republic and Haiti), raised in New York City on the ancestral bones and covered shrines of the Lenape people. In 2016 she initiated Dominicans Love Haitians Movement, an art-based non-profit organization. Who use various art modalities to unlearn racism, decolonize and unravel the racialized framework we live in to heal wounds created by eurocentrism. Their goal is to celebrate commonalities and honor differences to envision and create a new future.

Zuly Inirio is a Dominican operatic soprano who has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States and Europe. She is also an educator and an arts creative and aims to use her voice for social change. Most recently, Zuly was the soloist in the Verdi Requiem in Munich, Germany at Allerheiligenkirche under the baton of Massimiliano Murrali and sang the role of the High Priestess and covered the title role in Verdi’s Aida with the Mythos Opera Festival in Sicily, Italy. Zuly is the founder of PGH Voice Studio @PGHVoiceStudio in Pittsburgh, PA.

Jasmine La Flor is an Afro-Dominican-Puerto Rican singer/songwriter from the Bronx. Her work is dedicated to creating generational healing and abundance for her loved ones and her beloved community. Her passion and purpose is to connect with others through all forms of art and expression. She is also passionate about encouraging women, especially black women to practice radical self love and acceptance utilizing different methods of self-care. Aside from creating music, Jasmine is a mental-health and spiritual wellness advocate and uses ancestral wisdom to guide and empower her along her journey home to herself.
