SHE LOVES BOON// “GIGI/SUNLIGHT” Out now

GULIE CARRINGTON: My first question, interpret this as you wish: who are you? ☺️

SHE LOVES BOON: I’m Boon - the vocalist, backseat producer of She Loves Boon. We’re not a group or anything but there’s a lot of people involved to make the vision whole. I’m 25, from NYC - born and raised and taking it day by day haha.

GC: Nice to meet you! Let’s get right into it- what led you to do music?

Where do you get your inspiration from?

BOON: I used to write songs since I was like 10 years old. I first started releasing music when I was 18 but if we’re talking about when things really got serious and calculated that was about 2 years ago. Music is a great outlet for me whether it’s emotionally or socially when I’m working with people. I love everything that comes with music from writing, producing, planning music videos, the day to day photographing, branding - all of it.

I draw inspiration musically from a lot of different places but artists like Kurt Cobain, Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, Kanye West - all are artists that are really emotive through their songwriting. Similar to them I guess I want my songs to be about things everyone has felt in some capacity.

GC: That’s awesome, I appreciate the detailed response. Ahhh I miss Mac so much, he was so great!

What’s the best part of making music?

BOON: I really love just curating the experience for my audience. At the start of that is making a song but figuring out what the video looks like, what the rollout looks like, etc - everything about how it comes across to someone and the total package is what makes it fun for me.

GC: Well said! What’s next for you since we’re coming out of Covid? Have you marketed yourself any differently during the pandemic?

BOON: Luckily the pandemic hasn’t affected my  process too much. Right now me and my boy loe4t are working on finishing an EP and that’s going to be on of the big releases moving forward. Biggest goal is also setting up an EP release show in NYC for it, maybe LA and some other cities too!

GC: I hear you! That’s amazing. How is touring for you? How do you get yourself ready to head back out there?

BOON: It’s cool - we’ve done a lot of shows pre covid in NYC, really a bubbling scene here I’m excited to see it this summer after everything. I’m so excited to get back out there - the music has changed and gotten so much more me and I’m excited to perform it live after so long.

GC: I’m excited for you! If I ever get the chance I’m coming to see you on stage! ☺️ what else are you looking forward to?

BOON: I’m really excited to just ride this wave authentically. The music, the visuals, the rollouts all went so well - I’m excited to do more and just bring as much star power as I can to this.

GC: Speaking of star power, tell me a bit about your creative process.

BOON: My creative process differs all the time you know, I go through weeks where I don’t write anything to weeks where I write a song everyday. I talk about relationships, love, lot of emotive things in general and I think the words always come first to me. I work with my frequent collaborators to produce the rest of the record and from there all I think about is what the visual element will be. Every song to be like a capsule so I want people to not only remember the song but remember what the video was like, how it made them feel, the weeks that led up to it, etc. those are things that contribute to my creative process and I’m always getting better so the experience behind every song I make is somehow different but borrowing from the same master plan.

GC: I love that. Some of my favorite projects are the ones where each song is a departure from the last.

The visual elements too are so important! Creatively who would you say you look up to?

BOON: I borrow a lot of creativity from a lot of sources - Frank Ocean, Ari Aster (he’s a director at A24), some of these new Netflix produced shows are crazy too, I think Aaron Paul is one of the best actors I’ve seen, Bojack Horseman is a show I watch all the time - so many different sources and I don’t know how to merit each of them with direct things I do but at the end of the day they get my creative juices flowing.

GC: I love Ari Aster’s work. He’s an awesome up and comer. Love Bojack too! They speak truth on that show 😅 You’ve got a lot to draw from creatively, that’s super dope

Finally, where can we find your music? Any closing statements you’d like to leave me with?

Words of wisdom you can drop?

BOON: Hahaha yeah I think it’s important to be a fan of a lot of things. That’s one piece of wisdom I can give - some of my friends are workaholics when it comes to music and that’s admirable but I always stress you have to live your life, consume other types of media, just add as much depth to your character as you can cause that will translate to your music and listeners. My music is everywhere, I’m dropping a new song “Gigi/Sunlight” on the 16th of June so when this is out you can definitely find that as well. My music is available everywhere and I should have an EP out soon so stay tuned for that.

GC: I second that! I follow and try to learn from so many people that I discover, it helps me grow! Just like how we’re talking now. These sorts of connections put the battery in my back so to speak and keep my passion ignited.

Thank you so much for giving me your time. That’s all I’ve got!
