METVTRXN: Looking Ahead
METVTRXN (also known as METATRON) comes to us from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We sat down with Metvtrxn to learn more about him, his artistic and musical journey overcoming adversity and what’s next:
MET: I am living with amnesia.. the beginning of my journey, I couldn't really accurately tell you because of my accident and the subsequent head injury. I woke from having a head injury after a fall, not knowing anything. It's been a year and a half since that happened. I've started from scratch including teaching myself to DJ, as well as use the program I’m told I once knew.
Gulie Carrington: Wow, that must be tough to deal with. Which program did you use to learn? What prompted you to start?
MET: Well, I use FL (Fruity Loops) 20. I was guided to use that due to it being the once-used program, like I said, in hopes to spark memory...it hasn't. I've been using tutorials and such to get me going from there. I was going to try out Ableton, but I didn't own it until later though. So, I'm in sort of a holding pattern with FL.
GC: Interesting! How have you been throughout Covid? Musically and personally, tell me how you’ve dealt with it, marketed yourself, etc
MET: Uh, well it was probably best it was the way it was good for me to focus on the work I had ahead of myself. Not only musically as per life, people. The new world I was in. I just have really been getting last year family recently. So, it's an adjustment constantly.
I can’t say for marketing, I had to come to an understanding of what that was first. So I took many classes to learn how to market. It really played out and helped. I have moments of inconsistencies, though...due to what my everyday is like, it is understandable. I work hard though.
GC: Of course. That’s amazing and I’m so glad to hear that you’re doing well. That is incredibly inspiring. What’s your creative process like? What are you looking to get into as you learn more about the industry?
MET: Hmmm, I can say its all over the place. Due to me forgetting old methods. I try to write everything down. It's a good practice in general even not having a brain injury. Future move is movies, games..longevity. I know it has some dark corners though, the goal is to bring more of a triumphant, positive front since it's pretty dark out here.
GC: About how long had you studied the craft prior to losing your memory? It is SO incredible that you came back to it.
MET: Uh, from what I was told 10 yrs? I would be the 11th but my first year. I was told to do it. The career was deep and I simply couldn't just toss it.
GC: Ahh I hear you. It would be a shame if you let it pass you by, especially having such an obvious natural talent and passion for the craft. What are your hopes for the future as we go back to normal?
MET: Well, that the masses find an awakening. Now that we have gone through these tough times. We take an action of coming together. As for music, to keep the flow I am on with this upward path. As such continue to inspire as I have been over this short time.
GC: That’s sick. Any projects coming out soon?
MET: Hmmm, I have two Remix contest tracks I just put out. And have an original coming out in June!
