Jahsamir - Price of life
‘Price of Life’ by Jahsamir Leitzsey opens with intense energy; he’s got a story to tell about pain and the reality of living in the real world. Life is at times unkind, and Jahsamir paints a picture of this idea with this single.
“The way my mind feel,
treat it like a minefield,
gotta keep my eyes peeled
N***as gon’ be scheming on you,
plotting on the way you feel”
This song plays into the concept of duality and just how difficult life can be to navigate.
When asked how he came up with the concept for the song, Jahsamir says":
“I came up with the concept when I moved out to Baltimore 7 months ago. Living out here has been a way different experience because I wasn’t stable, I was staying in a motel at that time and the transition didn’t go how I thought it would. I thought to myself, ‘maybe this was happening for a reason’. You have to go through these trials and tribulations so you can understand what life means. After that experience, I see life an entirely different way. The little things matter; that’s what the price of life is.”
On his inspirations:
“Kendrick and Cole are my go-to’s, I constantly have them on rotation, as well as Nip. Those are my main 3 inspirations.”
On his plans post-pandemic:
“I have my own merch coming out, so i’m teaming up with some investors. I’m trying to put out more music and stay on the independent route while also expanding the branding. As of right now, I’m just taking one thing at a time. During the pandemic, I’ve been zoning in on the foundation of my brand to make sure that’s strong. Then, I can push everything out that I want to push.”

About Jahsamir: Rising out of Queens, NY, Jahsamir is a spoken word and rap artist who began cultivating his craft in his early teen years. His sound and lyricism is bi-coastal with influences from greats like Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Nipsey Hussle, and Mick Jenkins- to name just a few. In the formative years of his artistic repertoire, Jahsamir began performing all over the New York Metropolitan area- gracing stages in spaces ranging from open mics to prominent event halls like SOBs and MajorStage. Jahsamir’s art tells a story of the growing pains, environmental distress, and internal chaos experienced when one realizes that everything in life is a process that can’t be rushed or skipped, lest you miss out on the fulfillment of peace.
His cadence and creative expression can be attributed to the years of time he has taken to truly tune in to his inner self. With a voice that glides powerfully and blissfully over old-school Hip Hop instrumentals with Jazz and Gospel elements, his artistry is one that, if you don’t hear his messages right away, you will surely feel them. He attributes his conviction and the soul behind his work to the divine guidance of his heart when he is spiritually connected and open to the words that come to mind in his alone time.
