Getting Icy with Ise

feelin blessed visualizer

A recent college graduate and long time YouTube cover artist (9 years to be exact), Ise is here to put you in your feels — in the best way possible, of course. Her music is the embodiment of feeling and looking your best before a night out on the town, clapping back at anyone that’s done you dirty, and loving who you are. Her latest original singles “F U” and “feelin blessed” are the epitome of all those things and more.

“‘feelin blessed’ was the first song that I recorded by myself in my own little home studio, which I invested in all the equipment myself, because in the past, I always recorded at my friend’s house,” Ise says. “I felt so accomplished from this experience — like I did that in my own house!”

In 2019, she went through a breakup that left her heartbroken. At the time, the Subtle Asian Dating Group on Facebook was notoriously known for its members “auctioning” off their single friends, showcasing their attractive qualities in the hopes of finding them the perfect match online. Ise’s friends took to Facebook, creating a glowing profile for her with points like “BEYONCE! She can sing for you” and including videos of Ise’s vocal talents, much to her reluctance.

A producer reached out, asking to work with her, and she fell in love -- not with him, but with songwriting. Her first original single, “your loss, baby” was the product of an ironic Facebook post. Check out the clip below to hear how it went down!

As an Asian American, Ise hopes that her art will aid in the push for representation in the entertainment industry, and that it can one day inspire other aspiring artists.

“In this industry, I hope to be part of the reason that Asian Americans can get recognition in the creative space,” Ise says. “I want other Asian American artists or even Asian American immigrants, like myself, to be inspired to pursue their passions and to see that you don’t have to feel alienated or let down because you don’t see another person like yourself up there.”

Ise’s most recent single “F U” is an ode to unhealthy relationships of the past, and acts as a reminder to not let a toxic ex hold you back from being the best version of yourself. With smooth vocals and an infectious melody, the song sounds like the feeling of moving on from the past.

“A lot of my friends, and even me personally have been in situations where you know the person you’re with isn’t good for you and hinders your growth because they’re just intimated!” Ise says. “They gaslight you and just a bunch of things that are red flags, so this is basically an ‘F U’ to all of that to show you a baddie, you’re better than that to be held down, and a reminder to not go back to that toxic ex!”

With more involvement in the production of her own music, Ise feels more empowered to share her vulnerability through the words that she writes. As her sound evolves through her art, she is ever-evolving too as a person.

“I’m becoming more comfortable with voicing out my thoughts through my lyrics a little more,” Ise says. “I know they say one of the keys to success is to not care about what other people think, and I really think being ‘ise’ is becoming the gateway to that standard.”
