Kaash Paige Offers Comfort With “Teenage Fever”

On this day, 2 years ago, Kaash Paige released the song that would change her life forever. “Love Songs” was one of the few that Kaash released before graduating highschool. Within a year of its release, it had gone viral with the help of TikTok, allowing her to gain major label interest. Now, 2 years later, she’s one of the most intriguing R&B stars in the industry - a young, bisexual black woman from Dallas, Texas, who has found a way to comfort the world, but also herself, through the emotions of her debut album Teenage Fever.

Kaash sat down with Finessed and other members of the media to discuss the album, its themes, its recording process, and what it’s like navigating the industry at such a young age. We found out that Kaash is not only grateful and humble, but also confident and sure of what she’s going to accomplish. Even though she’s just released her first album, she’s already thinking about the ways that she can impact her city:

“You know how Travis Scott has “Astroworld (The Festival)? I wanna do something in Dallas kind of like that – but at the State Fair Park. I’d have Dallas artists on there, mainstream artists on there, and just do different of genres of music – so we can really showcase the culture of Dallas. I’m also gonna have my own studio/record label in Dallas… and have all different types of creatives come in and spray paint on the building – of course, no dumb stuff – but you know, I just want everybody to showcase their art, because I love that stuff like that.”

Kaash believes the energy you put out is the energy you receive. She credits most of her success to the dreams that she had manifested but used to be afraid to share. Her name, an acronym for, “Kill All Arrogance, Stop Hatred”, represents the ideologies that she came to learn after years of being told who she should be, and what she should do. Almost immediately after Kaash committed herself to music, which is what she wanted, she began to see more success, crediting “God’s Timing” for how it all worked out. Her soundcloud release, “Love Songs” popped back in 2018, just as she began to worry about going to college. And in 2020, just as the world began to fall apart, her music was there, ready to comfort those who were willing to listen.

Kaash’s Teenage Fever is vulnerable and real, which is all she’s ever wanted. She truly is “the world’s homie”, who understands the pains (and pleasures) that we all feel. Her music allows us to acknowledge the melancholy that comes with life, but also appreciate it for everything it has to offer. “Life is fun as hell”, and her music only makes it better.

Teenage Fever is 13 tracks long and had also been released as 4 sub-EP’s: “For Bae”, “For The Soul”, “For Healing”, and the “Toxic Princess”. The album features the likes of Don Toliver, 42 Dugg, the ever-elusive Isaiah Rashad, and even a few more guests who only add to the overall execution of the sound. The production is incredible, the lyrics are relatable and Kaash’s delivery is uniquely her own. The way she is able to approach genuine emotion with such honest comfortability, makes for a soothing listening experience. Song’s like “London”, “Fake Love” and “Problems” are some of our favourites, but you’re sure to find your own.
